Rehber

Rehber

About

Rehber is a system that helps families locate lost loved ones during the five key days of Hajj. The system consists of a wearable device and supporting service designed to operate without a smartphone or mobile network. International pilgrims, especially children and the elderly, can easily find themselves lost within Mecca’s massive crowds. Rehber provides a way to locate them. Each device has a range of up to five kilometres, significantly reducing infrastructure costs compared to other technologies such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. By operating free of mobile networks or smartphones, the system is both more resilient and easier for users to operate.

Hamza believes at their core, design and engineering are about one thing. Solving a human problem. They use different tools and techniques to achieve this. One relies on hard science and the other on emotional intelligence. However, both disciplines are about noticing problems and developing solutions to make a positive impact on the world. Thus, by using the two in tandem, he can deliver something that is reliable, feasible and valuable. His approach is human-centred oriented to identify problems and solutions that add value to enhance and enrich people's’ lives in a simple, easy and cost-effective manner. Hamza Oza is a designer and engineer from London who recently completed his double masters in MSc MA Innovation Design Engineering at Imperial College London and Royal College of Art. He also holds a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Warwick.
