Hackney Repair Archive

About

Hackney Repair Archive is a community initiative created to bring the art and design of repair to neglected public spaces. The project is a reaction to systemic under-funding in local government in the UK, and seeks to use creativity to develop alternative not-for-profit means to maintain and enhance our cities. Hackney Repair Archive works by identifying areas or specific items of infrastructure that require repair or improvement. Members of the Archive then reach out to the local authorities and communities to develop a strategy of crafted maintenance. Through its work, the project seeks to reframe maintenance as creative discipline and in doing so find new economic models to protect public resources.

Hackney Repair Archive is a project initiated by Daniel Wilkins to bring the art and design of repair to green and public spaces of Hackney. We believe in the power of community, design and creativity to deliver positive change in our cities. The work we do seeks to broaden the scope of art, design and creativity in the public realm. We work with communities and stakeholders to deliver catalytic actions, creative repairs and interventions in the neglected and overlooked parts of our city with a focus on the green spaces and public parks. Can we reframe maintenance as creative discipline and in doing so find new economic models to protect our public resources.
