About

Coral reefs, essential ecosystems for the planet, are being endangered by climate change 25% of the ocean’s fish depend on healthy coral reefs, which are rapidly being bleached. Bleaching indicates that the coral is expelling the algae living in its tissues, without which it cannot synthesise and will die. This system uses AI to deliver microorganisms to the coral. It also measures the temperature and light it receives and monitors underwater sea currents and patterns.

I am an electrical engineer with a passion for designing new devices and creating innovative solutions. I am doing my Ph.D. in electrical engineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), working in the areas of biosensors, edge AI, and energy harvesting. As part of my Ph.D., I have developed an underwater autonomous device that can help mitigate the destruction of coral reefs due to climate change. In the current system, I have developed a lightweight AI that decides when the coral reefs need help and when to deploy medicines to keep the corals healthy.
