Rhea

Project Overview

About

Rhea is an adaptable cushion designed to improve the comfort of pregnant women whilst at work. It consists of different lumbar-sacral cushions for changing spine curvature, which can be gradually increased over the course of a pregnancy. The seat cushion shape promotes weight distribution allowing for longer, comfortable sitting. The option of a donut-shaped cushion helps relieve pain in the perineum while the curved design of the base creates a pivot point and allows women to rock while maintaining back support. In both a relaxed and active posture, Rhea ensures a healthier and more supportive sitting position.

We are team pregnancy, a group of 3 students (Shivam Dehinwal, Yewen Tang, and Echo Wan) from the Integrated Product Design program at the University of Pennsylvania. Shivam has a background in mechatronics engineering, Yewen brings her expertise in UX design and research to the team, and Echo is an industrial designer. The three of us have an entrepreneurial spirit and are passionate about creating feasible, desirable, and valuable solutions that uplift the quality of human life. This time we are working with pregnant women to solve their sitting problems while working. Through the project, we built a network with local pregnant women, medical experts, and design professionals in the Philadelphia region to build empathy and successfully delivered Rhea, the cushion for moms-to-be.
